Education

Baptist University of the Américas (BUA)  opened there new facility on Tuesday, Aug. 2. The 69-year-old university on the Southside has moved from eight outdated buildings off I-35 South where it has been located since 1965 to a foreclosed medical office building built in 2006 that has been remodeled.

The new building, named the Baugh Building to honor the school’s largest benefactor, has a student union, classrooms, offices, a library and a chapel.

“It’s a turning point in our history,” said President René Maciel. “We are thrilled for our students to be able to experience modern facilities and for the university to have room to grow.”

BUA provides certificates and college degrees for students not only to enter the formal ministry in churches, but also to minister while serving in their secular careers. The 300-student institution with students from more than 20 countries has a strong donor base that provides funding to keep tuition affordable.
